SPORTS-(BRONCOS)
January 7th- So why the hell am I STILL doing a "Broncos" recap? Especially considering
that it's been over a week since the Donkies got stomped by Baltimore and I havent' recapped
the last two games, right? Well, for the 49ers and Ravens games, I'm actually attempting to
do something different. The 49ers recap will include some special features on Mile High
Stadium's history, while the Ravens recap will feature a breakdown/review of the
Broncos' entire 2000 season. It'll be worth the wait.
It's also important to inform you that, barring a mircaulous Super Bowl, this will be
the FINAL football entry for the 2000 season. I'm finally FREE of my Bronco obligation
and have spent the past two weekends buying a car, biking and going skating up in the
mountains. I'm still the closest thing to the Best Non-Paid Football NFL Reporter
You Will Ever Know, but the fact that I'm NON-PAID means I can come and go as I please.
I please to go right now.
I'm already drawing up my spring break plans, to either Florida or Arizona. Football's
over for me, and I'm already looking onward to baseball. Plus, I feel I've seen
about everything in football. As soon as the 1998 season ended, with a
Denver shitkicking of Atlanta, I sat back, relaxed and said to myself "I've
just seen the Denver Broncos blow out someone else in the fricking Super Bowl. Holy crap,
there is a God...I can die now, I've seen it all". Seriously, I may see the occasional
Cool Play of the Year, like Sharpe's TD in the Ravens game, or last year's
Frank Wycheck/Kevin Dyson kickoff return... but for the most part, I'm not as emotionally
involved as I used to be.
Don't think I'm going soft. I'll still watch the Super Bowl and, if the score's close,
both Championship games. The Super Bowl's generally sucked since the Steeler dynasty
went away. Since I've aggresively charted, studied and watched football since 1989,
I've seen only four decent games: Bills-Giants (1990), Broncos-Packers (1997),
Steelers-Cowboys (1995), and Titans-Rams (1999). I'd count the 1998 Broncos-Falcons
game, but that was only exciting because I'm a Donkey fan...everyone outside of Denver
probably thought it was a stinker.
The rest sucked. Hell, I sat through 49ers-Chargers, Cowboys-Bills, Packers-Patriots, and THREE
Bronco blow outs, so of course I'm watching the Super Bowl this year, again. I'm still
a Super Bowl trivia nut, so I always tune in to watch. Plus, last year I stayed up
for ESPN2's allnight NFL Films Super Bowl bonanza (all of'em, from I to XXXIII). From
Bart Starr and Max McGee all the way up to John Elway and Rod Smith. I even stopped to
tape the four Steeler, and two Bronco, wins.
And I wonder why I'm still single...
Besides, I phsyically sat through a Raiders' game..in Oakland, no less. I believe that
voids any responsibility I may have to sit through this year's AFC Title tilt.
As it looks right now, I'd say we can look for the Ravens to upstage the Raiders and the
Vikings to rool past the Giants. The Raiders are coming off a blowout, and very rarely
does a team play good after blowing someone out. Ravens also have a little something
called Defense. The Raiders have some slug named Rich Gannon at QB. A grateful nation
will owe Brian Billick's Ravens for keeping the Oakland Raiders out of the
Super Bowl.
Up in New York, the Giants just do NOT look like a juggernaut. However, they do have my
"cousin", Michael Strahan playing DE. Having a Stragand relative on your team always gets
you some good mojo. I don't think it'll be enough to get past the Vikings. With the money he gets
from appearing in the Super Bowl, Dennis Green may have enough cash to buy himself a
NECK. Vikings-Ravens in Super Bowl 35?
