G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #331
Writer: Larry Hama
Pencils: Paul Pelletier
Summary:
Wild Bill, Shockwave and Rock and Roll arrive in the Tomahawk at Snake-Eyes cabin. Scarlett and Snake-Eyes appear to be okay, and return to the Pit to fill the team in on what has happened. Dawn is still contained in a small section at the PIt. Snake-Eyes enters, unarmed, and uses the Arashikage Mindset to enter Dawn’s mind and virtually destroy the Easter egg trigger.
In Darklonia, Sean/Throwdown is destroying Blue Ninjas and assaulting the Terror Drome. He then disappears into the woods, but Beach-Head, Helix and even the Cobras know that he’ll return. Beach-Head and Helix attack the Terror Drome and hold-up the Cobras, agreeing to an uneasy truce until they can figure out the Sean Situation. Sean then returns in a Darklonian BTR-80 APC with plastic explosive strapped to the front, aiming to ram it into the Terror Drome.
Notes:
- The good ol’ Arashikage Magic Plot Device….errr “Arashikage Mindset”
- It’s also a little convenient how Duke and the Monitor Watching Crew are worried about Dawn in the contained area and that reatilation is imminent…. buuuuuut, there was enough time for the Tomahawk to fly to the High Sierras, pick up Snake-Eyes and Scarlett, and return to the Pit before anything could happen.
- This has probably happened before, but it’s amusing how the Terror Drome’s laser cannons are unable to hit ground targets that are close to it. I recall playing with the Terror Drome with friends and saying: “couldn’t you just run up to it?”
- I’m getting the sense that the code-name “Throwdown” has essentially been retired and he’s now just “Sean”. When was the last time somebody referred to him as “Throwdown”?
- File card is of Timber 4. Yeah…so what happened to Timber III, aka “Trips”?
- Letters page has a fairly incendiary letter from a fan complaining about issue 325 and how “stale” everything is. While he’s not 100% wrong, he offers no constructive criticism. Not even something like the usual “why don’t you focus on {NAME OF JOE}? He was my favorite figure as a kid.”
- Along those lines, another fan ask for the inclusion of Dee-Jay. Wha? He only made one appearance, was blown up in the oil field explosion, back in issue 113 in 1991, and summarily croaked.
- Ahem… so MY “constructive criticism”: using the Defiant, somehow concoct a way to fly up into space and transmit a signal that bounces off all the worldwide Terro Dromes and deactivates all Revanche tech. However, as the tech needs some sort of way into Revanche’s system, use the Brainwave Scanner or Snake-Eyes’ mental broadcast to infiltrate it. As shown last issue, they have a feed into these things. This action would burn out the Brainwave Scanner and end both of the franchise’s albatrosses.
- Now, how to get the Joes to acquire a Brainwave Scanner; that’s a one or two issue mission. Then tie everything up with a big assault/diversion on the Cobra Casino and/or some Revanche outposts (as shown in “Silent Missions: Spirit“).
- New plots and next steps? Whatever is planned with the Tomb Raider thing, and then go with a (basically) clean plot plate.
