G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero #222

Cobra World Order: Part Four

Writer: Larry Hama
Penciler: SL Gallant

Summary:

A collective of Special Ops brass arrives at the Pit to get briefed on the entire “Cobra World Order” plot. Wendy Ling-Torres, head of the overwatch committee, and her aide Fred also arrive.

Around the country, embedded Crimson Guardsmen are activated when they hear the words: “bewitched, entranced, fascinated”. Mostly infrastructure, like air traffic controller, power plants, mass processing facilities, etc. The Joes track the Crimson Guard activation and send their operatives out to each location.

Notes:

  • Yet another “getting ready” issue, yet something finally happens as the Crimson Guardsmen are activated.
  • The Joes are fully aware of Fred’s ruse and figure they can feed misinformation to Cobra, that way.
  • We’re told/shown that Duke has a recurring nightmare, about how he was shot and his wife kindapped on a relief mission.
  • Cobra Commander dubs their scheme with Wendy Ling-Torres as “Operation Ms. Marco”.
  • More info on how Claire Hasuer slipped through the cracks; the country she was in quickly changed regimes and she was passed around “like the Stanley Cup” for years, amongst various terrorist organizations.
  • This cover is the second of the big triptych that was begun with the special “Cobra World Order” prelude issue.
  • In the letters column, Hama mentions that after “Cobra World Order”, proper, there will be a new Greater Cobra Alliance and Global Domination Group, stirring up trouble in all the fictional countries.
  • Think I’ve mentioned this, before, but I’m using the cover image that I ended up with, rather the “official” cover. Just helps me to remember and organize things.
