G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #223

(Cobra World Order: Part Five)
Writer: Larry Hama
Penciler: SL Gallant

Summary:

The Joes fan out, across the country, to take out the activated Crimson Guardsmen. Cover Girl and Chuckles take out their respective Fred targets, but both get shot (not fatally). Tripwire is also instrumental in taking out a Fred at a nuclear power plant. Snake-Eyes and Scarlett take out a Fred at hydroelectric dam.

The Joes are successful in their efforts, but as it involved several high-profile public terrorism displays, they can’t take the credit. Neither can the Special Ops honchos. So the credit for saving the day goes to Wendy Ling-Torres, who becomes the newest national hero.

Notes:

  • Hey! Some significant stuff happened!

  • Cover Girl is assigned the “Seattle Fred” who’s been a subplot for the past year or so. She’s in her Seattle mission by a “Col. Bright”. He gets shot, as well (also not fatal).

  • It appears that most of the CG’s are subdued and captured. However, it appears that “Seattle Fred” is gunned down.

  • As a Skystriker leaves the Pit, we see the long-awaited (?) appearance of the 1984 G.I. Joe Watchtower! Working in these old items is a definite treat.

  • There’s also a subplot about Cobra Commander wanting the Brainwave Scanner destroyed. Dr. Mindbender acts like a little kid and is reluctant to do so.

  • The whole CG plot appears to have had one purpose for Cobra: to get Wendy Ling-Torres noticed in the politcal spectrum. So now she’s “Cobra’s Candidate”, to steal a phrase from the cartoon series.

  • Hawk mentions “The Jugglers”, once again. I feel their existence comes-and-goes as the plot demands.
