G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #297

Writer: Larry Hama
Pencils: Andrew Lee Griffith and Netho Diaz

Summary:

Genghis Khan steps out of the cloning vat, fully functional and completely nekkid. He has some physical confrontations with Throwdown, Helix, Jinx and Dawn Moreno. He then rallies the Cobra troops to follow him, as they continue shooting at the Joes in a corridor. Scarlett, Jinx and Helix make their escape via a sewer tunnel, while Throwdown and Dawn stay behind to hold off Genghis and friends. Genghis then corners the duo with a live grenade.

Gung Ho, Roadblock and Rock & Roll also enjoy shooting at Cobras in a corridor, then meet up with Scarlett’s team, outside the Casino.

Oh, and the Joes’ reinforcements are in the C-130 and getting closer.

Notes:

  • Yeah, that’s it.
  • Genghis Khan ends his streaking by acquiring Dr. Mindbender’s cape, a Viper vest and some Alley Viper pants.
  • Scarlett kinda’ foreshadows what’s going to happen, as she leaves Throwdown and Dawn: “But you and Sean are all I have left of the Snake-Eyes I remember, so you make sure to bail before it’s too late”.
  • Oh, BTW: he’s called exclusively “Sean” in this issue.
  • They’re also reminding us, yet again, that a simple GRENADE took out the original Snake-Eyes.
  • Gung Ho and Roadblock again walk safely through the public Casino. In an irony, the guests refer to them as “terrorists”.
  • Roadblock also wondesr: “did (that guy) really say not to shoot him because he was on a streak?” Gung Ho: “Who can figger the mind of a degenerate gambler?” Umm…I suppose that was supposed to be a BURN on gambling? Maybe.
  • In case you’re scoring at home (and we are), this is now two BIG recent arcs that have boiled down to simply “Joes shooting at Cobras in a corridor” (see also: Snake Hunt).
  • Almost forgot: Genghis headbutts Jinx…and in the next panel Netho Diaz draws blood dripping out of her nose, profusely. Guy just could NOT help himself. However, a few pages later, I’m a little shocked that Throwdown stabs a Viper and we do NOT see a big gory splash of blood n’ guts. Maybe Andrew Lee Griffith took the lead on that page?
  • The VAMP Mark II clearly has it’s four-missile rack, this issue.

  • You can change that Clutch appearance to confirmed as he’s in the plane in the next issue. I have not been big on this arc in general but I really enjoyed #298.

Now that I’ve read 298, I think it was Multo in 297.

      • Yeah I just sort of went with a process of elimination based on who appears in the subsequent issue even though it looks nothing like Clutch. But then I remembered I don’t think Griffith has even drawn Clutch sooooo…. But your guess makes more sense. I must confess I have not been been paying attention lately because I had no idea who Multo was.
