G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero- Jinx #1
Co-Writer/Pencils: Dani
Co-Writer: Dan Watters
Summary
In 20 seconds (allegedly), Jinx sabotages a Cobra Night Raven hangar and fights her way through Crimson Guardsmen. She has a slightly tougher time with a Night Creeper, but is able to eliminate him, as well, as safely jump away from the hangar as it explodes
Notes:
- While this issue has some nice visual work going on, the 20 second gimmick is a bit hard to swallow. At one point, it even seems like Jinx smacks her head and is knocked out. Not to sound like a nitpicky dweeb, but all the action seems to take longer than 20 seconds. For example, the first Crimson Guardsman sounds the emergency alarm, and reinforcements are on the scene in ONE second.
- Also, quite a bit of attention to given to some Guardsmen trying to snip the wires and defuse Jinx’s bomb, but in the end it doesn’t make an impact. I couldn’t tell if that was some form of intentional irony in the plot, or something else.
- Like I said, the visuals work well, as it’s roughly a muted 3-color palette: red, black and blue (same as the G.I. Joe logo treatment). Reminds, a tiny bit, of Frank Miller’s “Sin City” stuff in the mid-90’s.
- And yeah, I’ll stand by 3 colors; not 4. I don’t count white, as it’s technically devoid of any color in the world of CMYK printing. All values are set to “0%”.
- This is the first of five special “Silent Mission” one-shots. They’re not numbered, so technically they’re all FIRST ISSUES.
Appearances:
Characters (figures): Jinx, Cobra Crimson Guard, Night Creeper
Characters (comic-only): none
Vehicles and stuff: Cobra Night Raven
Vehicle and stuff (comic-only): Mayyyybe a “Cobra Airplane hangar”, but that’s a big stretch.
Firsties: none

Not a big fan of solo stories in G.I. Joe at all and most of these recent ones did not change my mind. I’m grateful for more ARAH comics but the art in most of these was not all that great, and the stories just feel kind of pointless.
